Just like mom used to never make...
Just like mom used to never make...

Listen up, Fiddleyonians. This is the best coffee in Salt Lake. No competition. We have a winner. Get your apostate asses over to Jack Mormon Coffee Company on the corner of E Street and 2nd Avenue the next time you're in town for General Conference.

How in THE hell did I not know about this place?

Oh. Probably because I've been in Cache Valley for the last decade.

Damn.

From what I overheard the owner telling the hot chick who came in after me, they've only been in business since December.

hold on there skippy!

it's okay to cheat on sbux once in a while, but remember some of us still love it. only place that will not reach across the counter and strangle me when i order my incredibly high-maintenance beverage.

It's not cheating... it's more like... umm... leaving them for another.

I used to live about right there

So the little people candy store is gone?

I always thought that corner could have used a coffee shop--aside from the 4 that were there in the 4 years that I lived there.

Is Shambala still there.

Man I need to get back up to my old hood.

I have no idea what you're talking about :)

Submitted by clint on February 25, 2007 - 1:58pm.

There was a candy shop/coffee emporium there owned by little people. Given the fancy cups etc., I'm assuming they have gone.

Shambala is a kick-ass Tibetan restaurant that I hope is still there. I used to stop in on my way home occasionally and get a great Tibetan butter chair. Amazing stuff on a cold day.

Now that is funny. It should be Chai.

I imagined a Tibetan monk in an awesome sculpted butter chair in the State Fair style

slc has to show us up YET again with this.

lame. this really pisses me off. i love the chai at starbucks.

Submitted by Pete on February 23, 2007 - 10:28am.

How lame is Logan that it makes Salt Lake seem hip?

Submitted by jess (not verified) on February 23, 2007 - 2:39pm.

when was the last time you were up here?

there is a place to buy homebrew materials here in cache valley at least...

Submitted by Pete on February 23, 2007 - 4:15pm.

I heard about that. Is it any good?

Submitted by jess (not verified) on February 25, 2007 - 10:14pm.

but i hear it's great. it is actually very very close to my house. the owner has strange hours (i.e. he's open when he feels like it) but i have spoken with at least 4 people who homebrew regularly and that is where they get all their goods...

As a native Californian, where, at least in the Bay Area, there's plenty of tasty coffee, Logan was certainly a shock upon moving here last month. However, a local showed me Cafe Ibis on Federal Ave behind Zion's, and I can't get enough of the blackberry lattes. Not to mention the kickass employees. I hear their beans are great, too, but I don't have much time to make it at home.

meh....

Personally, I'm always a fan of locally owned and operated businesses. The only thing a Starbucks is good for is a meeting location. I suggest Beans & Brews.

Okay that's all.

Submitted by Pete on February 23, 2007 - 10:29am.

I've never been a huge fan of the B & B coffee. Jack Mormon's house brew really is amazing. Amazing is good.

You gotta love Utah-specific marketing - that name kicks ass. Like St Provo Girl, Polygamy Porter and other local gimmicks, it's very groovy how companies capitalise on the strange subculture that is Utah.

Strange?
Submitted by Pete on February 23, 2007 - 10:30am.

Utah has a strange sub-culture? Is this in addition to the strange mainstream culture too?

Submitted by wry catcher (not verified) on February 24, 2007 - 1:34am.

Utah IS the strange subculture vis-a-vis The Rest Of The World. Heh.

Submitted by Pete on February 26, 2007 - 10:16am.

I hadn't noticed. I should blog about that sometime.

I live in cali. Will someone please buy one of their mugs and mail it to me?? I gotta have one, this is awesome.

Submitted by Pete on February 23, 2007 - 11:18am.

This is just a guess but I'm betting if you call them, they'll ship one to you.

Ha, ya, thanks.

I should have known Jess would be here (Hey, Jess).

I think that you should have polygamy coffee house and enjoy the pleasures of both. Don't you?

Submitted by Pete on February 26, 2007 - 10:17am.

Only if the first coffee house agrees to the arrangement. Starbucks is a jealous bitch though and would never allow it.
