We're Gonna Make Our Dreams Come True

And we'll do it our way...
And we'll do it our way...

The wee yeasties are eating and farting and carbonating my beer now. Last night I bottled all the precious beer that had been busy fermenting away in my basement. Now, all that's left is waiting. The yeast has the hard part. They will give their life for fizz.

A moment of silent gratitude for the yeast. God bless them. They died in the service of men... and women.

The bottling went smoothly thanks to a root beer dress rehearsal. At rehearsal, a batch of root beer that the girls helped make stood in for the real beer. Plastic bottles in place of glass. It was all a clever rouse on my part to try out all the bottling procedures so I'd have them down for the real thing. The net result is that now the girls are excited and anxiously checking their bottles just like their old man.

We should have root beer for this weekend and beer beer for next week's Daytona 500.

Don't judge me.

Shut up and eat your ice cream.

I'm impressed! Especially since you had a not-so-dry run with the root beer.

A friend of mine used to own a brewery supply store in our dry little county. We took home the stuff to make the root beer for a fun little experiment, which ended in a huge middle-of-the-night explosion, with millions of tiny glass shards and sticky root beer, all over our back room.

Congrats!

That's exactly the reason we used plastic bottles. When the bottles feel hard, the carbonation is complete and you refrigerate it. The refrigeration tells the yeast to stop carbonating.

My grandmother used to bottle root beer. She used to say, "When the first bottle pops, it's time to put the rest in the fridge." A real live scientist, she.

Judging??

How can we judge without tasting the beer?

I'll just have to describe it in exquisite, delicious detail.

Laverne & Shirley

Am I the only one who now has that damn Laverne & Shirley theme song stuck in her head???

Love it. I'm looking for the cursive L on the label someplace. It really needs to be there. I've always had an affinity for the letter L...wonder why....

Nice catch on the song.

Go ahead...

call me judgmental. I'll just tell you I was thinking about someone else.

I think getting good and drunk is a great idea before watching that Daytona thingy.

(NASCAR??)

I'm such a hater. You would be too if your spouse subjected you to NONSTOP viewing of biathlon.

Did you actually equate auto racing to a winter Olympic sport? Shame on you.

Ahh the sweet Grog of Frog....a wee spot and all is right.

Your washed out image looks like that of a famous golfer haha. The rootbeer sounds good too!

It's a pitchfork. I guess that would be a good club in the long rough. A good time to enjoy a cold homebrew.

Tests on root beer

The idea of bottling root beer makes me laugh (even just for testing purposes). Perhaps, you could use one of those clever names like Brigham's Brew. You could sell it (to TBMs) & make loads of money for your beer brewing.

Don't laugh. The root beer turned out great. I've enjoyed it a lot.

Of course, anything brewed in the style of Brigham Young would be too strong for modern Mormons. Ah, the irony.

Home beer

You've inspired me. The day after I read about your field trip, I took one of my own to the local home brewing place and got to making some beer post haste as soon as I stepped through the door. Today was the magic day I opened my first one (cream ale) and while it may need a little more time downstairs, it tastes great.....and trust me, it's working, too.

Hope yours turns out as good when you sample your first and you're as pleasantly surprised as I was tonight.
