She tried it. Not sure she loved it but she drank the whole drink.
"How's that rum smoothy treating you?"
"It made me a little dizzy."
"The word you're looking for is tipsy."
"Did it taste like hairspray?"
"Nope. It was really tasty."
Filed under - DonnaI really hate rum, myself. It tastes like hairspray to me. So, Donna, don't take that to mean all alcohol tastes that way. Some of it's REALLY good.
Pete made me a rum smoothie the other night. It was pretty good. I decided to try it to see what all the talk was about. Put religion aside, alcohol isn't something that I want or even need to consume on a regular basis.
It left me feeling quite dizzy. The same way I feel when I take strong flu medicine. If you ask Pete I would rather suffer then take medicine because of the side effects. That's probably why I have had two unplanned pregnancies.:)
It's going to be because you're body isn't use to it, or you're just a natural lightweight. If it's something you don't like, no reason to drink it. Just like if you don't like anything else.
A glass of red wine is considered healthy, try drinking that with dinner one night. I like heavy flavors like port.
I would suggest for taste purposes a jack and coke. And maybe you should make your drink, or ask Pete to add less than he thinks the drink should have. I really like the taste of Jack and Coke. Or Crown and Coke. I really drink them for the taste and not the alcoholic properties.
Rum can be really really harsh or quite tasty. It all depends on the drink. Rum and vanilla coke is quite tasty.
I typically wont touch Bacardi since it's a tad to stiff. I still cringe thinking about the 151 shots from back in my college / military days.
If you are drinking fruity type drinks with rum try Whaler's rum its generally a little lower proof and not as dry. (Look for the colorful bottles).
My drink of choice is Crown and Coke. My wife hates Crown. Whiskey isn't for beginners :)
Coconut rum has a lower alcohol content than regular rum. It is also yummy with pineapple juice. Sort of the lazy woman's pina colada.
As far as drinks go, I tend to get tipsy on the smallest amount of alcohol; one appletini or cosmo and I'm out for the night. So when I get the chance I always opt to make my own drinks, and go lighter on the booze and heavier on the mixer. Personal favorite? Rum and coke, of course. But at this time of year, nothing beats a nice hard cider, or mulled wine, or a hot toddy with brandy. Just listen to your body and don't overdo it; everyone has different tolerance levels.
I had a bad rum experience (the infamous Bacardi 151) when I was young, and ever since then I simply can't stand the taste of it (nor peach schnapps, but that's another story from the same experience). Even if it's rum cookies, I'll feel nauseous immediately.
Someone mentioned red wine. I made the mistake of trying a merlot as my first red wine choice -- if rum tastes like hairspray, then merlot tastes like gasoline (to the inexperienced anyway).
If you'd like to try something sweet & fruity, I recommend Bacardi Silver (comes in several flavors -- the "original" is good, that's the only one I can vouch for at this time). Alcohol content is compared to a good beer, so you're not gonna be left feeling dizzy with one. It's often called a 'pussy' drink, but I could really care less. I don't have it very often because though I like fruity, I don't like sweet very often, but I do crave it once in a while. Goes great with a meal to, to even further reduce residual alcohol effects yet enjoy the relaxation and social lubrication. I remember, from many years ago, that Bartles & James wine coolers were nice as well. YMMV.
Ok, try Captain Morgan spiced rum and Coke. Yummy. Capt. Morgan doesn't have the bite regular rum has.
I have only found two "Coke enhancers"...french fries and Capt Morgan spiced rum (but not at the same time).
